Fly Series Awakens
When starting the Fly Series something overtook me.
My strokes were lighter.
My color contrasts reflected the lightness in a different way.
My expression took flight.
It was not a mood, or music, or the morning news.
The news of late is always dismal and scary. Too much violence. Too much reaction to it.
Somehow I just did not bother with all of that, and let my muse take over.
In Fly, the work is effortless.
I have been told my strokes are wiped clean of most pigment.
I did not intentionally do that.
But if you look at the details, you will see it is true.
I did work back wards.
I started with a dark canvas and brought the light out of the work with layers getting lighter.
An inside out work.
Easy to overwork this kind of complicated work.
Always a danger with the layering and scraping process.
In Fly, the work was not deep and recessive.
It was lighter and came out off the canvas toward the viewer.
It took flight toward its veiwer.
It dared you to stay and view it with no fear.
The pieces are seemingly not contiguous.
Each work stands on its own.
