Huge Storms Coming

There is nothing like a huge thunderstorm
to paint
and stay inside
dry and wandering
through tubes and jars of paint.
Getting inspiration out of my tucked away thoughts
and memories of my studios
and my travels.

There is nothing like a huge thunderstorm
to experiment with paints
and play on the canvas.
To be somewhere else
where there is a cool breeze
and intermittent sunshine.

There is nothing like a huge thunderstorm
to get into thoughts I have not though of in a while.
To get paint on canvas in unusual rhythms
and relationships.
To dabble just a bit
with fun shapes
and scrape it off and start again.

There is nothing like a huge thunderstorm
to escape after a four hour painting run
and go to Starbucks
and watch clouds roll in
and crash into each other.
People coming in wetter and wetter.
Must be a hurricane coming.
Must be strong winds and waves
hitting eroding sand.

There is nothing like a huge thunderstorm
to get into just wanting to paint more.
And enjoy drama outside
safely behind glass.
And then realizing that the drama created your best work ever!!
