A daring talented ABSTRACT ARTIST
stood up against huge odds
to be himself in a world
of ART and judgment in
NYC in the 1950's.
Alcoholism
depression
and an argumentative
nature
blended together
to create an unlikely hero.
He was constantly asked
about content in his work.
As an ABSTRACT painter knows
that is not always something
to be answered in words.
His comment "Memories arrested in space"
is especially fitting for me.
That is how I work
and do not even consciously do it.
He felt that photography was a great tool
to release the Abstract Painter
to do a different form of expression.
"Most modern painters work from a different source.
They work from within."
Sums up his attitudes.
"Objects in nature can now be represented by photography,
freeing the modern artist to 'express an inner world, in other
words,
expressing the energy,
the motion
and other inner forces'
"Yes, the modern artist is
working with space and time
and expressing
his feelings
rather than illustrating."
In summary
as we paint
or create from an inner place
we are allowing our true
ART to flow from us
and to embrace what is inside
our own muse
and not dependent upon
answering
or expressing others feelings
or views.
