Traveling the South is an amazing feat!!!
The Civil War,
The Revolutionary War,
It is all represented here.
Going to battlefields and visualizing the
struggle
the support of each other
with terrible odds.
Fighting an enemy that oppressed
in the Revolutionary War
with a young country and few resources
other than pride
and fervor.
Then the Civil War full of struggle
with brothers against brothers
and so much to ultimately lose.
The South really suffered.
How dare the South turn on the industrialized North.
They were punished severely for
their deeds against he the North.
You can still see the poverty that resulted in the South.
So sad.
Plantation owners severely punished
taxed
and lands carved up and sold off.
When you actually absorb the history in the South
you cannot help but be a bit sad.
A bit confused about the anger then.
Everyone was mad.
The North was in punitive mode.
The South wanted to rise up again and do something.
Everyone lost.
But mostly the spirit of cooperation
and desire to rise as one nation.
The South and its struggles reminds me of how
creative people also struggle.
To find their muse
to keep their muse
to create something that the masses
understand and support.
It is all a small cosmos that relates to the South
and its war
and its punishment.
To the victors go the spoils of war.
To the wanderer through this land
goes the wonder of how the pride
survived.
And maybe it did not.
The South seems to be on its knees
alot more than the rich North.
The Fords and the Carnegies
gave back to the arts and culture in the North
but in the South
plantations are carved up still
and sold off as developers make neighborhoods
with land that no one family can afford.
The history seeps between their fingers.
And is lost forever.
