Abstract Thoughts

It all starts with
ABSTRACT thoughts.
Letting your mind wander
to that image
that color
combination
those strokes
and those images.
The form takes shape
because it is already in your
mind
your soul
waiting to be expressed.

Abstract ARTISTS
are very special.
They create something
from nothing.
They coax it out of the canvas.
They know when it is done.
They know when they have gone too far.
It happens.
Most paint overs
that I do
are pieces that were done hours
before I finished them.
I go too far.
I wander past the right moment
and then it is a dismal
creation.

I know it the moment I stop.
It is a true mess of something
that I never intended.
So I have learned when to stop.
And yet sometimes
I still go too far.

Having the courage to be done
is a rare thing.
Most artists overwork
their pieces
to a point of gibberish.
It is what we do.
The courage comes from years of practice
and knowing that feeling of
completion.
And the knowing that any further
and you have changed the message.
And you have ruined the image
itself.
So I step back
from the easel.
I look at it through the camera lens.
I stop working
and take a break.
Coming back later
and viewing it again.

That works for me.
Every Abstract ARTIST
has their way.
Their process.
Their creative limit.

And no input from others ever works
to do this for me.
It is just annoying.
