Olive Green in Acrylic Painting
I like olive green.
I like the just a bit lighter shade that backs up my painting.
I like the way it interacts with other colors.
Bright tones come forward.
Dark tones add drama.
And the other greens tease it in to be more cheerful.
When I use olive green, I have several shades that I play with at the same time.
One that goes more blued, that cools it.
One that brings out the yellow in the color.
One that is just dark, rich, and grounding.
It is a fun color because it does not have to hog the spotlight.
Blues are not always friendly that way.
Blues tend to control and push other colors around.
They want to be center stage, and often are.
Greens are not so showy, especially olive greens.
Today I intend to let my canvas interact with those greens.
I like what happens.
As I layer and play on top of them, they get a bit shy and just give way.
So today I will let the olive greens have their way.
I will let them just be a basis for a painting that captures the movement of colors.
A painting that gets a bit moody and quiet.
A painting that needs a pop of red and orange to cheer it,
and black to make you notice.
Today I will paint with olive green.
