Finding Ways to Share

As an ARTIST
your ART is not
always the best thing to give
to others.
Some folks are not
sophisticated enough
to actually appreciate it
or have any interest in it.

Some people are just in need of
basics in their lives.
I can donate ART to an auction that
benefits them
if there is something organized to
do that.
Or donate other
household items to them
that they need.
But some people have
even more basic needs than that.
Some people just need food
or basic utilities
or a place to live.

I have done many projects as a
designer to give back
to homeless people
or inner city people
to help in ways that designers
can help.
But that was a large effort with many
people helping.
When it is just me
I hesitate to
reach out to individuals
so as not to offend them.

There is a little family
who lives across the
street from our Low Country
home / studio.
They are obviously
just getting by.
They have several little kids
with one on the way.
I see the County stop by
doing health checks on
the mom and little ones.
I know they could use help.
So I am just starting to reach out to them.
Little holiday gifts for the kids.
A bit of support
where it will not offend.
They are a functioning family
and the father goes to work everyday.

For Halloween I am
doing little creative surprises for the kids.
Just fun things
with pretzels and chocolate
and funny sprinkles.
Cupcakes with decorations.
A basket of fun treats
that the kids should enjoy.
I am sure that they are
struggling a bit to
buy groceries
and have anything extra.
I see no extravagance
from that house.
So my goal is to spoil the kids
just a bit.
Be that strange neighbor who is always reaching
out and giving in some way.
We all need to find ways to share.
