Oscar Wilde and Aubrey Beardsley

A relationship of two masters
of breaking barriers
and shocking their public.
These two were destined to
be close com-padres!
They first met in February in 1893
a time of conservative moires
and accepted behaviors
that were conservative
and reserved.
These two were not.
The Picture of Dorian Gray
had just been published
and the effect of Oscar Wilde
on his public was
scandal and delight.
As they wished to
be scandalized and delighted.

Oscar Wilde was enjoying
a full success
for his lightning wit
gregarious generosity
and prodigious charm.
He was the figure - head
of a new exciting movement in literature.
As Aubrey intended to be
in the visual arts!

Aubrey Beardsley felt that Oscar Wilde's
art was a perfect accompaniment to
his own mind's weird vision.
When England proved to snub Oscars
work Aubrey agreed.
They both threatened to move
to France to punish the
English philistinism.
