Hard to visualize winter
here in the South.
I mean 72 degree days
does not exactly feel
like the winters of my life.
Waking to a fresh
blanket of snow
on everything in your outdoor
world.
Waking to cold floors
and bare feet
scampering to
find slippers
or socks
or something to keep
you warm
while you draw a morning
bath to warm you.
Or dress over a heat
vent to keep you warm
until your sweater
or jeans
or tights
do.
I remember all of it.
And it is that memory that
puts the strong
focus on
enjoying
every moment of winter
as it is now.
No snow on cars
or ice on windshields.
No slipping and sliding
on your way to
a school bus
or a car.
Just running or walking
in temperatures
that others envy
and focusing on work!
