Acrylic Paint and INTENSITY

Acrylic ARTISTS struggle with intensity in their paints.
The cheaper the paint,
the less intense.

I prefer playing with layers of intensity.
I am not trying to make everything I do absolutely figurative
but I do enjoy the bold stroke that only an oil painter gets.

So we experiment a bit
and use heavier Acrylics that give us the texture
and the depth that we want.

I play with texture and depth.
I like to float color over others
and scrape it away.
I add and destroy.
It is all part of a destruction process that takes me into the work.

People can call it carving.
Or deep scraping.
I call it destruction.

I am currently involved in a series that is intense in color
and scraping.
I have not named it yet
but I do believe that it is my oldest son in inspiration.

I think of him while I delve into the color layers.
He is intense and passionate
and he is always searching for the next challenge.

Sounds like all my kids.
But he is a pioneer in his work.
He flies.
He test pilots.
He is soaring above the clouds and diving through them.
His life is intense and full of just enough danger to suit him.

We sometimes hold our breath.
We sometimes have to remind ourselves that it is HIS life
HIS way to be who he is.
And leave him in the hands of the universe.
Not easy.
But isn't that what intensity is all about?

Texture that paint or that life
combine medium and let it create what is inside you.
Combine experiences and let it define you.
Love all of it and
let it soar.

Now that is intense.
